I am a PhD student in Social & Personality Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin.
My research takes a social-cognitive approach to understanding beliefs, misinformation, and myside bias. More broadly, my research seeks to understand how people know what is true versus false?
More specifically, I am particularly interested in answering the question: Why do people fall for misinformation? To address this, my work combines experimental and computational modeling techniques to disentangle the various components of truth judgments and identify the psychological factors that ultimately shape what people believe.
A central finding throughout this work is the large role myside bias plays in shaping people's beliefs. Much of my work, subsequently, has attempted to examine the psychological factors driving myside bias. By doing so, my research aims to identify the mechanisms needed to build a more informed and less polarized public.
